WHAT IS ADRENAL FATIGUE?
Our adrenal glands sit on top of the kidneys and produce hormones like cortisol, adrenaline, and testosterone.
Sometimes due to extended trying conditions, they can work overtime, causing them to wear down and not produce enough hormones. Although western medicine doesn’t totally acknowlege it as a “real condition” most alternative practitioners do.
These glands are necessary for proper metabolism, immune function, proper blood pressure, and a healthy stress response among other functions. Consequently, when this system becomes sluggish, many people get caught in chronic stress and can develop symptoms such as brain fog, food cravings, chronic fatigue during the day and wired at night, weight gain, sleep issues, digestive problems, mood swings, anxiety, depression and kidney difficulties.
What to do?
For a common alternative protocol, think of a triangle with the two corners at the bottom and one at the top. The first items to address are at the base of the triangle. In this case it would be to address the sympathetic system – fight, flight, freeze and fawn. We will talk more about this another time. When this system gets stuck in any of these stages, you can’t access the parasympathetic system which is the rest and healing function.
The first step is to recognize the trap of looking for caffeine, refined carbs ( ie. pastry, fast food etc.), and sugar to help energize you. These will sabotage your healing journey. They all provide a quick dopamine fix in your brain, but with a crash later. Maintaining consistent blood sugar with enough clean protein and healthy fats (think avocado, coconut, nuts and olives) will help. Along with these you should check for symptoms of any fungus (candida) issues. There are several natural herbs and tinctures that help with this.
Next up we will address stress and getting proper rest next time. After that how to use certain herbs, treat infections, look at thyroid issues, vitamins and minerals, and toxins such as EMF and heavy metals. These all affect proper adrenal function.
Remember, I am available for a personal consultation to help you on your health journey.
